Ulverston Community Arts Network

UCAN consists of people who live in or around Ulverston and who organise and sustain active interests in different forms of community arts.  We aim to encourage and promote creative involvement to attract, train and develop people's talents; initiate new projects and support local established ones.  The network is independent of all other organisations, welcoming support, collaboration and participation in its activities.  UCAN is a membership organisation, with an annual subscription. 

The broad activities of the network are planned and decided at meetings of a steering committee.  The steering committee is elected by members at a publicly advertised Annual Gerneral Meeting, which is the only time when this Constitution can be altered.  Only paid-up members may vote at any meetings.  The  steering committee consists of at least three and not more than seven elected supporters including a Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer.  The steering committeee may co-opt up to three other additional members.  In addition to the Annual General Meeting, the steering committee will arrange each year three publicly advertised open meetings for members.  Whilst the members meetings can inform and advise the steering committee,  their decisions are not binding on that body.Treasurer will keep the financial accounts, which will be annually audited and appoint two additional signatories for the bank account, whom must be elected members of the steering committee.  In the event of the network ceasing to function, any residual assets will be donated to a similar local or national group.
